OBITUARY

Regretfully, I have to inform you that Bill, our secretary, lost his long battle against heart problems and died on the evening of 26th March 2009.

As a key founder member of our group, and as a constant source of enthusiasm and inspiration, he will be sadly missed.

Bill had been a keen “Southern” aficionado since childhood (his father worked on the railway) and he thus gained a vast knowledge of the history and operations of this important railway company. He led a long and successful academic career – latterly holding a Senior Lecturer post at Manchester University – and his scientific background has provided very useful technical “input” throughout the development of our group’s layout.

Bill was a proud and devoted “family man” but he was always able to support model club activities and – as one of life’s perfectionists - he always maintained a disciplined and methodical approach to all our group’s administrative tasks. His work on setting up and maintaining this web site “speaks volumes”!

I, and my CHMRG colleagues, send our deepest sympathy to Bill’s wife, Elizabeth, and to all of his family.
